You may know that something is beautiful, but can you
feel its beauty.

A clever man once said....

THE PARADOX OF OUR AGE

By the Dalai Lama

We have bigger houses but smaller families;
more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees, but less sense;
more knowledge, but less judgement;

more experts, but more problems;
more medicines, but less healthiness.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.

We build more computers
to hold more information,
to produce more copies then ever,
but have less communication.

We have become long on quantity,
but short on quality.
These are times of fast foods,
but slow digestion;

Tall men but short character;
Steep profits but shallow relationships.
It’s a time when there is much in the window,
but nothing in the room.

I Heart Jesus

I find guys with scruffy long hair and unruly beards extremely sexy. Its something about that full mane of flowing locks and facial hair, that only a ‘real’ man can grow, that gets me all hot and bothered. My mother thinks I have a ‘jesus complex’ ha! I am waiting for my savour to come and show me the light. I even have a folder in my iphoto dedicated to these beautiful male specimens, so I thought I would share some with you.

The Big Burning Man

Last year I was blessed with beautiful lasting memories of the psychedelic magic dusty desert that was burning man. Its an experience you cant quite describe or anticipate. We were told stories of what it might be like, things to expect but it was nothing like I imagined and yet I would probably describe my experience in the same way. It’s a festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and for one week a small (well 50,000 people small) community is set up bringing art, sculpture, music and most importantly self expression. The community is completely self reliant and no money is exchanged at the festival. I will explain no more as I cant.
The wait.

Start of the bunny march.

And in total contrast to my pictures, a month after the festival French vogue had a feature on Burning Man although their pictures were, well….a hell of a lot more glamorous and cool. I hate that Burning Man has got so big to be featured in French vogue and I worry for its future when big publications are talking about it, I mean its so very special because of its following but if everyone starts to go because the fashion world says its cool who knows where it will go. Saying that it’s a secret best shared as it will make your smile a little wider and your heart a little bigger. The feature from French Vogue was beautiful none the less.

Go all the way!

Something I always say is if your going to do something you may as well go all out and do it properly.
An amazing poem by Charles Bukowski says just that.

Roll The Dice

if you’re going to try, go all the
way.
otherwise, don’t even start.

if you’re going to try, go all the
way. this could mean losing girlfriends,
wives, relatives, jobs and
maybe your mind.

go all the way.
it could mean not eating for 3 or
4 days.
it could mean freezing on a
park bench.
it could mean jail,
it could mean derision,
mockery,
isolation.
isolation is the gift,
all the others are a test of your
endurance, of
how much you really want to
do it.
and you’ll do it
despite rejection and the
worst odds
and it will be better than
anything else
you can imagine.

if you’re going to try,
go all the way.
there is no other feeling like
that.
you will be alone with the
gods
and the nights will flame with
fire.

do it, do it, do it.
do it.

all the way
all the way.
you will ride life straight to
perfect laughter,
it’s the only good fight
there is.

Hmmm...How to start a blog?

Well I suppose I will first explain why the name ‘a vagabonds beauty’ is the decided blog title. To be honest it just came to me. Within seconds really. The first and only name and it felt terribly appropriate. When confronted with a blank box to be filled with a title I thought I may as well give up now. I am too indecisive to ever decide a title, besides I don’t even know what this blog is to be about. Travel maybe or should it be about my work, make-up, and all my inspirations? Can I have both? It just came to mind. A Vagabonds Beauty. The blog could be about whatever I wanted. I cannot claim I hadn’t heard that phrase before. Many years ago I read ‘Into The Wild’ by Jon Krakauer and I remember reading that phrase. In what part of the book I have no idea, why or who said it I cant remember but the picture those two words together conjured up stuck with me ever since.

A vagabond is a drifter and an itinerant wanderer who roams wherever they please, following the whim of the moment. The beauty in ones soul inclined to do such a thing. The beauty one sees on their travels, natures glorious wonders. The beauty one sees in the people they meet, in their hearts, in there faces. The beauty of art, of fashion, of cultures and traditions. The beauty of words. Things inspire me everyday so I will share them on here as well as my own work and travels.
